Final generic ballot average · Election Day, November 3, 2026

Democrats +8.0

Weighted average of 119 national polls of the House vote (546 on record), the last ending November 2. It is a measure of the national popular vote for the House, not a seat forecast.

Polls vs. results: what happens next

We don't call races or report vote counts. Once the national House popular vote has been counted, we will compare it with the final average above and score every poll from the final three weeks, pollster by pollster, on the 2026 pollster scorecard. A first comparison uses the unofficial count and is labelled preliminary; it is updated when states certify their results, which takes several weeks.

On the ballot: all 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats and 36 governorships.

Where a state spans two time zones, the first time is when its earliest polls close and the second when the last ones close. Anyone in line when polls close can still vote. Times from 270toWin, checked November 3, 2026. Results links go to each state's election office, which publishes the unofficial count on election night and the certified result later; the state name links to its presidential results since 1976.

Questions about the 2026 midterms

When do polls close on November 3, 2026?

The first polls close at 6 p.m. Eastern Time in parts of Indiana and Kentucky; most of the East closes between 7 and 8 p.m. ET, and the last polls, in Alaska and Hawaii, close at midnight to 1 a.m. ET on November 4. The table lists every state.

Who won the House and the Senate?

ElectionsUSA does not call races. Each state's election office publishes the unofficial count on election night and certifies the result in the following weeks; news organisations project winners from those counts. Use the official results links in the table for each state.

What did the final polls say?

The final generic ballot average had Democrats +8.0: Democrats 50.8%, Republicans 42.8%, from 119 national polls. The generic ballot measures the national House vote, not seats.

How will you check the polls against the results?

We compare the final average with the national House popular vote and score every poll from the last three weeks of the campaign on the 2026 pollster scorecard: first with the unofficial count, labelled preliminary, then with certified results.
